LAHORE:

The district consumer court disposed of a suit against a dress shop on Monday as the case was settled out of court. Muhammad Tanveer, proprietor of Modern Zari House, paid Rs5,000 to Huma Bibi to settle the case, as agreed at the last hearing.

The petitioner had sued Modern Zari House seeking damages of Rs55,000 for allegedly using substandard thread and cloth to make her dress. She told the court that she had paid Rs1,500 for the outfit, but the colours faded in the first wash. She said that she visited Modern Zari House to complain, but was “harassed and humiliated” as several other shopkeepers had also gathered there and had taunted her. Huma Bibi had asked the court to direct the respondent to pay her Rs55,000 as damages and for “mental agony”.
