PESHAWAR:

The capital police have pasted pictures of 46 suspected arsonists across the city.

The men are accused for ransacking and damaging public and private property on Ishq-e-Rasool (pbuh) Day on September 21.

SP Asif Iqbal told The Express Tribune that the police used video and photo evidence to identify the suspects.

‘Identify us and inform the police,’ were the words inscribed on the boards. A telephone number of the police station concerned is also provided, Iqbal said.

The pictures are on display in Saddar, Ring Road and in the jurisdiction of the Paharipura Police Station.

“In the guise of protestors, they not only damaged property but also looted valuables,” he said.  Six people were killed in the riots, while around 70 others were injured.

Information has been collected from different sources and 18 FIRs have been registered against those who are affiliated with banned outfits and some religious and political parties. “FIRs have been filed in seven police stations,” the SP said.

Some of the accused include Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) former provincial minister Hafiz Hashmat Khan, advocate Amir Baharullah and Maulana Ismail Darwesh from Jamaat Ahle Sunnat.

Once arrested, the culprits would be handed over to a special investigation team for interrogation.
