Illegal connections: Police harassing people for using subsoil hydrants
There are around 150 subsoil hydrants across the city.
KARACHI:
Private water suppliers have asked the government to stop the police from harassing people using subsoil hydrants.
These hydrants are the only option for people without piped water connections. There are around 150 subsoil hydrants across the city, which supply water to tankers after taking it from underground aquifers.
“Police has been raiding these hydrants which have nothing to do with the fresh water hydrants,” said the general secretary of the Karachi Water Tankers Owners Welfare Association, Hazoor Khan.
He added that subsoil hydrants are different from fresh water hydrants as they use water coming from the infrastructure of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. The board has banned the use of hydrants built on its system. Most of the subsoil hydrants are located in Korangi, Landhi and Mangophir.
