The liberal lynch mob (II)
We should stop using the Sialkot incident to demonise Pakistanis.
ISLAMABAD:
This is with reference to Mahreen Khan’s article of Aug 28, the topic of which was written in two separate articles by George Fulton and Fasi Zaka. We should stop using the Sialkot incident to demonise Pakistanis.
What happened was action taken by a mob and it is representative of nobody except the people who were involved in it. There is also government failure here. Of course, nothing justifies this crime and all involved must be punished — but this is mob action. There have been many cases where people have been arrested and killed as thieves and this happens because our democracy and our politicians are not able to provide them justice. Where were those demonising all of us when waderas in Sindh threw a pregnant 19-year-old, literally, to the dogs? Where were they when sardars in Balochistan ordered the live burial of three women? How are poor Pakistanis responsible when the powerful people above them operate with impunity?
