Tour of Himalayas called off

Safety concerns forces cancellation of cycling event.

KARACHI:

The Tour of Himalayas cycling event, organised by the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF), has been cancelled due to security concerns as participants from England, Germany, Italy and Slovakia were left disappointed.

The announcement came a day after the event was postponed due to the country-wide protests on Friday.

"We were all set to host this event in a grand fashion but the horrific scenes on Friday forced us to cancel the race,” PCF Secretary Azhar Ali Shah told The Express Tribune. “Any mishap during the race would have been detrimental to our cause and hopes of holding any events in the future. So it was best to call it off.”

Shah termed the cancellation a ‘massive disappointment’ for the organisers but vowed to host the event as soon as the situation improved.
