Squash: Aamir eases through to CAS final
Top-ranked squash player to meet Mehboob today.
KARACHI:
Pakistan’s top-ranked Aamir Atlas Khan will take on Farhan Mehboob in the final of the CAS International Squash Championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex in Islamabad today after both recorded contrasting wins in their last-four clashes.
Aamir took little time to assert his dominance in his semi-final against Farhan Zaman, winning 11-5, 11-7 and 11-7 in less than 30 minutes. However, in the other semi-final, Aamir’s younger brother Danish gave Mehboob a tough time before going down 12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 3-11 and 11-3 in 52 minutes.
Despite the loss, Danish was hopeful of an improved show in the future but wanted the Professional Squash Association (PSA) to help Pakistan squash and lift the ban on international players coming to the country.
“The conditions are different now and it’s safe to play in Pakistan,” Danish told The Express Tribune. “I was named the best Asian junior player but I want to move forward and accomplish bigger things but I can’t if I’m unable to take on better players.”
