Fashion Police: Red Alert!

While monochrome jumpsuits look fabulous on some, others turn a potential fashion win into a major faux pas.

Co-founder of Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon attended the 2012 New York City Ballet Fall Gala at the Lincoln Center looking like a flaring red siren — the ridiculously loud kind which refuses to turn off.

While monochrome jumpsuits look fabulous on some, others like Tamara turn a potential fashion win into a major faux pas by wearing them with everything they own in the colour red.

Make-up

While she chose to keep her eyes and cheeks simple, Tamara didn’t think to do the same with her bright red lips. The last thing her look was asking for was more colour — opting for a neutral lip shade could have somewhat helped redeem her look on the already ‘red’ carpet.

Hair

Choosing to tie her hair back in a high pony tail accompanied with the boring round T-shirt neckline was not a great idea for Tamara, as it made her fire engine red lips stand out more than necessary. Letting her hair down would have softened her otherwise too-bright-for-comfort look as well.

Accessories

Tamara’s chunky gold rings served to be somewhat of a saving grace for her (they weren’t red!), but accessorising a little differently would have definitely helped. A bronze or dull gold long necklace would serve as a welcome distraction from all that red and while her rosy clutch is commendable on its own, a simple black one would have sufficed here instead.

Outfit

The sleek red full-sleeve jumpsuit is not a disaster in itself but we wish Tamara had worn it differently. It could have made her look classy rather than attention-seeking if she had paired it with less red. We actually love how it fits giving a slender and sleek look.

Better dressed

Kareena Kapoor

Bebo has managed to pull off the same bright red outfit with a lot more grace and class. Adding a dull gold belt to this Emanuel Ungaro jumpsuit was a great break from the red and while she also chose to tie her hair back in a sleek bun, the bold neckline really helped balance out her look.

Kelly Osbourne

Showing off another daring way to go red, Kelly looked great in a knee length leather dress at London Fashion Week this year. The daring actor neutralised her look with a black bag, dark pumps and sunglasses adding the right amount of funk and eccentricity to her outfit.

Kristen Wiig

Also choosing to go all red, Kristen’s look was a lot softer on the eyes. Her shoulder-less red Valentino jumpsuit looked stylish, chic and bang on trend. Letting her hair down and accessorising with a dark coloured clutch was also a great idea, something that Tamara should have picked up on!
