Collaboration sought on water research
Pakistani and Bangladeshi experts should coordinate their efforts on efficient use of water as both face acute water shortages, Water Partnership of Bangladesh Vice-President Dr Khundkar Azharul Haq said on Tuesday.
He said both countries faced India’s intervention on rivers flowing into their territories.
Dr Haq said some scientists in Bangladesh had recently developed a rice variety which had a higher vitamin-A content. He said the use of such rice could prevent people from vision impairment in old age.
He proposed collaboration between Bangladeshi scientists and their counterparts at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, for research on rose plants and diseases associated with flower plants.
Earlier, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Iqrar Ahmad Khan briefed the visiting scientist on the ongoing research projects at the UAF. He said there was a need for experts in the South Asia to collaborate their efforts to solve regional problems like climate change.
