Tunnel Repair: Court orders NAB, EPA to submit final report

During the last hearing, the court had directed NAB to collect all revenue records of the tunnel.

PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has asked the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to submit a final report regarding renovation of the Kohat Tunnel.

A divisional bench of the PHC, comprising PHC Chief Justice (CJ) Dost Muhammad Khan and the court’s only woman judge Mrs Justice Irshad Qaisar, was informed that renovation work at the tunnels is “almost complete” following installation of exhaust fans and lights inside the tunnel.

Project Director Abdul Rahim Gandapur informed the bench that the tunnel has been nearly restored to the condition the Japanese government left it in. However, EPA Director General Dr Bashir told the bench that there was still polluted air present inside the tunnel due to absence of exhaust fans.

CJ Khan observed that the exhaust fans were installed a few days earlier so EPA officials should revisit the tunnel and file another report.

During the last hearing, the court had directed NAB to collect all revenue records of the tunnel.
