Environmental degradation: CDA asked to reign in expansion

CDA chairman asked to draw up sustainable plans for harvesting the rainwater.

ISLAMABAD:
Climate Change Minister Muhammad Farooq Khan expressed his displeasure at Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s failure in addressing environmental degradation in the capital. He pinpointed issues such as lack of cleanliness and sanitation, increasing pollution, violation of building codes and poor or inadequate availability of safe water. He expressed these views while chairing a meeting on Tuesday at the climate change ministry. He asked the CDA chairman to draw up sustainable plans for harvesting the rainwater. CDA Chairman Farkhand Iqbal said the agency had not received any funding in 18 months, which was a major factor for their inability to undertake new schemes.
