Cricket: ‘Confident’ Nain targets more runs
Pakistan Women vice-captain says tough group not an issue.
KARACHI:
Nain Abidi, who became the first Pakistan woman to score an international century, is now aiming for an impressive show at the Women’s World Twenty20 that gets underway from September 26.
The Pakistan vice-captain said the century had boosted her confidence, which she hoped, will help her at the mega event. Nain added the team was making steady progress that could be gauged from the outstanding individual performances in recent times.
“We are progressing well as a unit and it is because of the support from the PCB’s women wing. The improvement is due to the increased international exposure.”
‘Tough teams not an issue’
The women’s event will feature eight teams with Pakistan being bracketed with the pre-event favourites Australia, England and India. The top two sides from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
Abidi said the team was not concerned over the presence of tough teams in the group.
“We are targeting a victory against each side. We are banking on team efforts as we are now a balanced outfit.”
Rain affects practice session
Meanwhile, rain affected the women team’s training camp which begun on Sunday.
The team is scheduled to play a couple of practice games against local sides before the camp’s conclusion on September 20. The team will leave for Sri Lanka the following day and will take on England in their opening game on September 27.
