Higher education: Mehran university passes deficit budget
University will generate a revenue of Rs617 million and expects funding of Rs594 million from the HEC.
HYDERABAD:
A deficit budget of Rs1.9billion was passed at the 31st senate meeting of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, for the fiscal year 2012-13. The university will generate a revenue of Rs617 million and expects funding of Rs594 million from the Higher Education Commission. A deficit of Rs588 million has been estimated on the account of rising fuel prices, utility bills, salary increments and a lack of funding from the government in the outgoing year. According to the university’s public relations officer, Imdad Soomro, the senate’s meeting appealed to the government and the commission to fund the university’s deficit without delay. They cautioned that academic and research work would be affected due to the shortage of funds. Separately, the university will hold elections on September 17 for four vacant seats for associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers on its syndicate.
