Second meeting: PEMRA strives to define ‘obscenity’

The first session on this issue was held on August 27 at the Pemra headquarters.

ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has received very valuable input from the participants of the second consultative meeting for defining the term “obscenity” for electronic media, said a press release issued on Friday.

The first session on this issue was held on August 27 at the Pemra headquarters in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the constitutional petitions filed in the apex court by Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Justice (retd) Wajhiud Din Ahmed on rampant vulgarity and obscenity on media.


The meeting was attended by former chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi president Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Justice (retd) Wajihud Din Ahmed, Lt Gen (retd) Abdul Qayyum,  Muhammad Ziauddin (Executive Editor, The Express Tribune), actors, writers and human rights activists.
