Balochistan minister ousted for fake degree

The university admit card sported the photo of a man who had taken exams on the minister’s behalf.

QUETTA:

Balochistan Minister for Excise and Taxation Babu Amin Umrani has been disqualified for possessing a fake degree.

The degree has been cancelled by the division bench of the Balochistan High Court while calling for criminal proceedings against the minister.

The bench comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal issued the order on a petition filed by Niaz Ahmed. Umrani was elected member of Balochistan Assembly on PPP ticket in 2008 general elections.

Last week, Balochistan Minister Syed Ehsan Shah was disqualified by the court for holding a fake degree. Furthermore, degrees of eight parliamentarians were declared fake by the Higher Education Commission on Sept 6.

Interestingly, Umrani’s admit card to the University of Balochistan sported the photo of another man named Mumtaz Ali. The man had taken all exams on behalf of the minister.

A record of the examination form was produced before the court on which the name and address of Babu Amin Umrani were written, but the photo attached was Mumtaz’s.

An FIR has been lodged against the minister. The court has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct by-elections on Umrani’s seat: PB 29 Naseerabad.
