PM calls for containing epidemic

Prime Minister Gilani directed the Ministry of Health to work to avert any possible outbreak of disease.

ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has directed the Ministry of Health to work with different NGOs and international health organisations to avert any possible outbreak of disease.

Chairing a meeting to review the health situation in flood-hit areas last week, he directed authorities to convert the Railways Hospital in Sukkur into a dedicated medical facility for the treatment of patients with acute diarrhoea on Friday. This step was taken to control the outbreak of water-borne diseases in the flood-hit areas keeping in view the heat and humidity of the south, said a handout statement.

Gilani directed the ministry of railways to place the hospital at the disposal of the national health authorities, who will convert it into a dedicated medical facility with the help of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The establishment of this facility will create no additional expense since the existing staff will continue to work for the hospital.
