Child’s killer sentenced to death
Kidnapped child was killed after parents failed to pay the full ransom demanded by the convict.
BAHAWALPUR:
An Anti-Terrorism Court in Bahawalpur on Thursday sentenced Muhammad Ishaq, an Uch Sahrif resident, to death in a killing and kidnapping-for-ransom case. Judge Sohail Akram also sentenced Ishaq to 17 years in prison and ordered confiscation of his assets. Shortly before the announcement of the sentence, the convict fled the court. However, he was re-arrested and produced in the court.
He was sentenced to death under Sections 365-A and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7-A of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, to ten-year imprisonment under Section 344 of the PPC,to two-year imprisonment under Section 344 of the PPC and to five-year imprisonment under Section 21-L of the ATA of 1997, fined Rs200,000, Rs10,000 and Rs40,000 under various sections of the Penal Code and ordered to pay Rs200,000 to the family of the deceased.
The prison term will be extended by three years and nine months if the convict fails to pay the fine and damages.
Ishaq was arrested by Uch Sharif police in the kidnapping and killing of Muhammad Amjad, 14. The FIR stated that he killed the child after having received Rs200,000 in ransom. He had demanded Rs500,000.
The body of the child was later recovered on his indication from an onion field.
