Fashion police: Black Attack

The dress looks like something actor Winona Ryder’s grandmother put together on her prom night over two decades ago.

This dress looks like something actor Winona Ryder’s grandmother put together on her prom night over two decades ago, which was never again altered according to modern times. The actor showed up at the premiere of The Iceman in this little black dress (LBD) which made Winona look like an unflattering version of Morticia Adams.

Hair

Big earrings and updos generally make ones ears look bigger than they actually are and this is the scenario Winona is suffering from in this picture. The actor should’ve gone for a loose bun or just let her hair down because right now the big earrings and the high pony is drawing unnecessary attention towards her ears.

Make-up

Winona’s stylist kept the focus on voluminous eyelashes and a mauve pout. Even though there’s nothing particularly wrong with the make-up, we just don’t like how it is not adding even a small pop of colour to this otherwise bland outfit. A bold rouge pout, a sweep of maybe blue or green in her eyes would have added that much needed fun streak to this ‘I will be a nobody at the prom’ look.

Outfit

Winona’s LBD (lame black dress) is making her body proportions look odd. Her shoulder and chest area look extremely elongated while her legs look stumpy and short. The bodice area of the dress is too long, which is why it is making the torso area look longer and more dominant than her legs. Everyone who is associated with the fashion world knows that women and designers keep their eyes peeled for dresses that give the illusion of longer legs. So this piece is a total no-no for short women.

Accessories

There is nothing red carpet and glamorous about these Aunty Shabbo earrings. Winona could have easily opted for small, more vibrant earrings but instead she went for a pair that looks like the accessories a 60-year-old aunty would wear to a distant relative’s wedding.

Shoes

We love black peep toes but the lack of creativity in this outfit is making us hate every bit of it. Red or even dull gold heels would’ve worked in Winona’s case but this combination is every bit a fashion disaster.

Paris Hilton

Every now and then, socialite Paris Hilton makes us want to believe she could be so much more than just a rich snob. She attended the presentation of the Charlotte Ronson Spring/Summer 2013 collection during New York Fashion Week in this cutesy black dress which has just the right amount of tease. The red belt and the small peekaboo cut right above her waist has added so much spice to this otherwise plain black dress.

Neslihan Atagul

Actor Neslihan Atagul made a statement (the real Morticia way) at the photocall of the movie Araf — Somewhere In Between at the 69th Venice Film Festival. The actor did nothing glamorous with her look and instead went for a floor grazing, body-hugging gown and a simple braid but she still managed to dazzle on the red carpet. The young actor has our respect for making minimalism look oh-so-hot!

Cristina Capotondi

Italian actor Cristina Capotondi attended a party during the 69th Venice Film Festival in this black dress with a thigh high slit, daringly low cut neckline and textured broad belt. Our eyes love everything about this picture and we can’t get enough of the stunning black, gold and white diamond combination on this equally beautiful actor. Make sure you take a fire extinguisher with you the next time you go to her hometown.
