Zoo administration: Wildlife fans get a chance to get involved
City administration mulls getting volunteers to assist at Safari Park and Karachi zoo.
KARACHI:
Passionate about wildlife? Here’s your chance to get involved.
The city administration is looking for people with the passion to work with animals and birds to guide it on the administrative affairs at Safari Park and Karachi zoo.
The volunteers would be included in a steering committee that would be formed to look for ways to improve these recreational spots, according to Muhammad Hussain Syed. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administrator said this while presiding a meeting held to discuss ways to improve the city’s recreational points. The meeting was attended by the directors of Karachi zoo and Safari Park, and the senior director of sports, culture and recreation, among other officers. It was decided to establish an administrative committee to run the Karachi zoo and Safari Park. The volunteers would not only take care of the animals and birds housed, but also guide the administration on the cleaning and sanitation.
They would cooperate with the administration to carry out routine medical checks of animals and chalk out the diet plan for different animals. The committee would also recommend the procedures to adopt when importing animals in line with the national and international wildlife laws. It would also assist in the maintenance of record of the existing and the newly acquired species. Citizens were also encouraged to come up with suggestions to improve the recreational places and join hands with the KMC to keep animals in a better environment. The city administrator hoped that the participation of wildlife enthusiasts would bring about a positive change.
