‘Provocative Speech’: Malik Ishaq granted bail

Ishaq is not expected to be released today as he is also currently accused in other cases.

LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge on Monday granted bail to Malik Ishaq, the co-founder of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.

Model Town police had arrested Ishaq last week from the Allama Iqbal International Airport upon his return from Umrah. A case was already registered against him under the Amplifier Act and other sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. According to the FIR, Malik Ishaq had delivered a provocative speech at a procession held in a village of Nishter Colony.

Representing the accused, Advocate Rana Arif argued that neither was any independent complaint filed against his client, nor had the aggrieved party approached the police for action.

Arif said that the police lodged an FIR merely on the report of Special Branch, which depicted that the government’s intentions were mala fide. The counsel requested the judge to release his client on bail and declare his arrest illegal.

Malik was granted bail after the submission of a surety bond worth Rs500,000.
