Dangerous downpour?: ‘Mohenjo Daro is being protected’

Culture department is coordinating with the deputy commissioner of Larkana, workers are on alert round-the-clock.

KARACHI:
The culture minister, Sassui Palijo, and culture department’s secretary, Abdul Aziz Uqaili, said that precautionary measures are being taken to ensure that Mohenjo Daro and other archeological sites remain safe during heavy rainfall. Before the monsoon season, both of them had met technical experts to discuss how to protect the sites. They have decided to unclog drains. Palijo and Uqaili claimed that so far, the measures seem to be working. The culture department has been coordinating with the deputy commissioner of Larkana, Asadullah Abro, and workers have been on alert round-the-clock. Motor pumps and manual labour are being used to drain the rainwater that has accumulated at the archeological sites, including Moenjo Daro.
