Ephedrine case: Makhdoom Shahabuddin moves SC over pre-arrest bail

With the rejection of the pre-arrest bail petition, Shahabuddin’s interim bails expired on Monday.

ISLAMABAD:
Federal minister for textile industries Makhdoom Shahabuddin on Monday moved the Supreme Court for relief against the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench order, which dismissed his pre-arrest bail petition in the ephedrine quota scandal case last week.

On September 3, the Rawalpindi bench of the LHC dismissed the pre-arrest bail petition, declaring that the petitioner was not entitled to such compensation and therefore the court would not be inclined to grant him the relief.

With the rejection of the pre-arrest bail petition, Shahabuddin’s interim bails expired on Monday.

Asserting his innocence in the scandal, Shahabuddin argued that neither his name was mentioned in the FIR nor in first challans.

In the leave petition, filed through Sardar Muhammad Ishaq Khan, the federal minister for textile accused the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) authorities of framing him just to deter him from contesting the elections for the slot of Pakistan’s premiership.

Shahabuddin contended that he is absolutely innocent and has no concern whatsoever with the allegations. He further argued that during the nine-month long investigation, his name was not mentioned in any of challans in any category - which he says is sufficient proof to stop any further inquiry into the case.
