ISLAMABAD:
The federal government had planned to set up 40,000 adult literacy centres across the country by 2015, said a federal minister on the International Literacy Day.
“The government had chalked out a comprehensive Literacy Action Plan with the aim of establishing 40,000 adult literacy centres, 100 community learning centres, 100 Quranic literacy centres and 100 functional literacy centres across the country,” said Waqas Akram, Minister for Education and Training, to Director General UNESCO Irina Bokova, during a meeting in Paris on Saturday.
An official handout dubbed it the Literacy Action Plan 2010-15, without mentioning how many of these centers have been established so far.
