Police open fire before determining nature of incident.

PESHAWAR:

A man carrying a 110-kg remote-controlled bomb was killed by the police on Thursday.

He was transporting the bomb into the settled district from Akka Khel in the jurisdiction area of Badhaber police station.

Talking to The Express Tribune, SP Rural Khurshid Khan said the device was being transported in a push cart in Sheikhan Village when the police opened fire and killed the man on the spot.

While his aide managed to escape, the bomb was defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).

SP Khurshid added that the identity of the militant has not yet been established.

“He was pushing a cart in a suspicious manner and when police asked him to stop in Sheikhan, he and his colleague ran away. The  police opened fire at him, killing him on the spot,” he said.

Police inspected the cart and found the bomb.

“Initially, we mistook him for a suicide bomber, but we found a remote-controlled bomb from his possession along with a pistol. His other friend, however, ran away,” he informed.

Sheikhan village has witnessed various remote-controlled blasts in the past six months.
