Middle Ground?: Government, SC want to work towards resolving NRO issue: PM
Institutions were looking for a solution to NRO case in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
ISLAMABAD:
The government, its coalition partners and the Supreme Court collectively want to resolve the issue pertaining to the non-implementation of the apex court’s verdict in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case, said Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Wednesday.
In his opening remarks at the federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister said the institutions were looking for a solution to the NRO case in accordance with the law and the Constitution. “My appearance in the court is a testimony to our respect for the Courts,” Ashraf said. The prime minister strongly condemned the recent wave of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.
“The culprits of these terrorist acts will be brought to book. Such acts can never deter the government’s resolve to fight the menace of terrorism,” he added. Ashraf said that he had also asked the provincial government of Balochistan to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict in order to improve law and order situation in the province, adding that the government would extend its assistance to the Balochistan government and all possible measures would be taken for improvement in law and order situation.
