LHC reader’s murder: Police arrest 2 suspects, conclude it is an ‘honour killing’
Police said they were able to trace the suspects from Ghauri’s cell phone.
LAHORE:
City police claimed to have arrested two suspects they say have confessed to killing Mazhar Iqbal Ghauri, an employee of the Lahore High Court.
The police say the men murdered Ghauri because he had illicit relations with an aunt of one of the suspects.
Lytton Road Police said they had recovered the victim’s vehicle, a computer, a licensed pistol, camera, prize bonds, property documents and cheque books from the suspects. The items had been reported missing by the deceased’s brother.
Ghauri’s brother Shahid told police that he had been unable to contact his brother, who had been a reader at the High Court for 25 years, since August 22.
He said he had contacted Ghauri’s neighbour and asked him to check on his brother. The neighbour had gone to Ghauri’s house and found his body.
According to the investigation team, they were able to arrest the suspects – Humayun alias Honey and Sajid belonging to Shahdara – from Ghauri’s cell phone data.
Humayun told the police that Ghauri had illicit relations with his aunt.
CCPO Aslam Tareen has announced cash and commendation certificates for the investigation party: Inspector Muhammad Rafique, Sub Inspectors Muhammad Afzal and Muhammad Ijaz and Constables Mumtaz Ahmed and Rehmat Ali.
