LAHORE:

A five-hour long rain spell on Wednesday helped bring down the temperature but also caused inconvenience to commuters.

The Met Office recorded 15 mm of rainfall at its observatory at Jail Road while only a trace of rainfall was recorded at its observatory at the airport. The office forecast heavy rain for Thursday (today). Flight schedules were also disrupted as a result of the rain. Some had to be diverted to other cities and others postponed for hours.

Some areas including Shadbagh, Lakshmi Chowk, GPO, Nisbet Road, McLeod Road, Gulberg, Bahawalpur Road, Do Moria Pul, Gadaffi Stadium, Badami Bagh, Multan Road Chungi, Islampura, Mozang, Samanabad, Sanda, Shamnagar and Sherakot were submerged as a result.

Traffic also remained jammed on several roads. Muhammad Sabir, who was stuck on The Mall for almost 40 minutes, said that a mechanism to ensure smooth traffic flow needed to be devised.

People thronged parks, markets and restaurants to enjoy the rain. Huge crowds were seen at Firdous Market, Fortress Stadium, Defence-Y Block, DHA-AA, Thokar Niaz Beg and Johar Town.
