Infrastructure: ‘Project to link Bahawalnagar to Arifwala Road approved’

DDO (technical) given 3 days to report on progress on all road projects.

BAHAWALPUR:


The provincial government has approved the construction of a two-lane road connecting Bahawalnagar to Arifwala Road, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Khan Khichi said on Tuesday.


He was addressing a meeting at the office of the district coordination officer in Bahawalnagar.

He said Rs582.639 million would be spent on the project.

The commissioner warned officials against delayed starts to the project.

The Bahawalnagar deputy district officer (Technical) was directed to inspect all road works and submit a report to the commissioner in three days. The Highways Department superintending engineer was asked to ensure decoration of all roads in the division. The commissioner said construction of Haroonabad-Bahawalnagar Road, Bahawalnagar-Chishtian Road and Hasilpur Road should be completed without a delay. The commissioner said that the government was considering institutionalising citizens’ feedback on development projects. The meeting was told that restoration of Bahawalnagar Wildlife Park will be completed in a month at a cost of Rs60 million.

Colleges


The meeting was told that renovation work at Girls College Minchinabad, Post-Graduate College Chishtian and Degree College Haroonabad was also underway at estimated cost of Rs115.4 million, Rs72 million, and 50 million, respectively.

The commissioner was told that Rs26.78 million would be spent on construction of an auditorium at Girls College Bahawalnagar and Rs70 million on additional facilities at Boys Degree College Marot. Another Rs28.6 million will be spent on construction of staff rooms, a computer laboratory and halls.

Public health 

As much as Rs26.17 million and Rs15.346 million, respectively, will be spent on the upgrade of the tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospitals in Chishtian and Minchinabad.

A dialysis unit each will be constructed at THQ hospitals in Fort Abbas, Haroonabad and Minchinabad. Rs9.737 million will be spent on each of these projects. The commissioner directed the Health Department to conduct regular inspections for elimination of dengue fever.

Revenue

The commissioner was told that Rs75.282 million of the Rs692.4 million target for the current year had so far been collected.

The commissioner earlier visited construction sites of a new emergency block at the DHQ hospital and a general bus stand. He was told that work on both projects would be completed in a month. These projects will cost Rs185.65 million and Rs80 million, respectively.
