QUETTA:
Gunmen riding on a motorcycle killed the provincial president of the Pakistan Peoples Party (Sherpao) Ghulam Mustafa Khursani on Wednesday, police said.

“Mustafa Khursani was killed in his native town of Soorab, some 230 kilometres  south of Quetta,” senior police official Khalid Baqi told a wire news agency AFP.

“Khursani was sitting in a grocery shop when two young men riding a motorcycle came there and sprayed bullets from a close range,” Baqi said, adding that the motive for the killing was not immediately clear.

Khursani was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Soon after the incident, the police cordoned off the area and started a search operation. Nobody has yet claimed responsibility for the killing, Baqi said.

After the killing, workers of PPP-Sherpao protested in the hospital and shouted slogans against the government. Police have started investigations.

Human-rights activists have raised concerns about an increase in targeted killings in the province over the past 20 months. Agencies
