Runaway Afghan Couple: Hearing adjourned due to absence of judge

Threats surfaced in the media after their elopement.

PESHAWAR:

Hearing into the case of the Afghan runaway couple was adjourned on Saturday after a family court judge failed to appear, leaving eight days to decide the matter.

The hearing has been adjourned until Monday.

Haiwad, 23, and Maryam, 22 were summoned by the court on July 23, immediately after the news of their family.

Threats surfaced in the media after their elopement.

The Peshawar High Court’s division bench had shifted the case to the family court on July 31, with directions to resolve the matter within 40 days.

Upon knowing the couple’s presence in Abbottabad, the family issued them death threats.

Maryam’s alleged first husband, Rehman’s claim has also been supported by her family members.
