Crime: ASI fined for illegally detaining citizen
The ASI had failed to show any FIR against Rehman on Friday.
FAISALABAD:
A district and sessions judge (DSJ) on Friday imposed a fine on an assistant sub inspector for keeping a citizen in illegal detention. DSJ Muhammad Rasheed Qamar asked ASI Muhammad Saleem to opt between payment of Rs5,000 fine or imprisonment of two days for keeping Muhammad Rehman, a resident of Millat Town, in illegal custody. The ASI chose to pay the fine and left the court after submitting an apology for committing the offence. Rehman was earlier produced before the court by a bailiff, Hajji Shahid, assigned to recover him from Millat Town police’s custody. The bailiff was appointed for the task after Muhammad Ramazan, a resident of Bhai Wala, had submitted a petition in the court of DSJ Qamar submitting that his brother, Muhammad Rehman, was arrested by Millat Town police without any court warrants. He had said that the police were keeping Rehman in a lockup at Millat Town station without registering any case against him. The ASI had failed to show any FIR against Rehman on Friday.
