FAISALABAD:

The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) on Thursday night suspended power supply to the City railway station and staff colonies over nonpayment of electricity bills for several months.

FESCO spokesman Tahir Sheikh said the supply had been suspended on the railways administration’s failure to honour its commitment on payment of dues.  He said following an earlier suspension of supply the service was restored on the assurance that bills would be paid in time. But, he said, the railway administration had yet to pay.

The station manager said the matter had been reported and a request sent to the Railways Headquarters about release of funds.

On Friday, residents of the residential colonies staged a demonstration to protest suspension of power supply.

They condemned the railways for not paying power bills despite deducting from the workers’ salaries every month.

The supply of gas to the staff colonies had also been stopped recently over nonpayment of bills.
