Better reporting: Training workshop on torture

The objective of the initiative is to sensitise the media on the subject of torture.

There will be a workshop to sensitise and educate media about the issues of torture in police custody across the country, said a press release.

The two-day national workshop, organised by Individulland Pakistan, will be held on September 1 and September 2 for journalists from across the country.

The workshop is the culmination of a long sensitisation process for the media on the issue of torture.

IL-Pakistan, a non-profit organization, joined hands with Foundation Open Society Institute to run a series of workshops in 11 cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Quetta and Pishin.

The objective of the initiative is to sensitise the media on the subject of torture and help eradicate the practice of torture from the state structures.

The training focused on the criminal justice system and understandings of legal and human rights activists on the subject of torture.
