Power slowly resumes after outage hits 65% of Karachi
Red zone areas were also deprived of electricity after 43 grid stations tripped simultaneously.

Up to 65 per cent of Karachi was plunged into darkness, including red zones early on Friday morning after 43 grid stations, and extra high tension line of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) tripped, Express News reported.
Among the areas which suffered the outages included parts of Defence, Clifton, Gizri, MA Jinnah Road, Jacob Lines, Garden, Korangi, Queens Road, Lalazar, Old Town, Lyari and West Wharf.
Red zone areas were also deprived of electricity.
The blackout comes just three days after Karachi suffered a similar power breakdown, when light drizzle affected KESC’s equipment, affecting areas of Garden, Jacob Lines, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, DHA and Gizri.
KESC’s official twitter account tried its best to placate angry customers. It tweeted at 1 am on Friday to a frustrated complainant that repair work had begun and electricity had been restored in most areas already, before adding that its 220kv KCR Lalazar Circuit line had tripped.
“Only 15% area was affected. Most parts already restored.” @KESC_Ltd replied to a customer.
A KESC spokesperson told Express News at around 2 am that only eight grid stations remained offline, while all others had resumed normal operations and power to other affected areas was expected to resume shortly.
