Deputation cases: SC summons list of all officers working on deputation
Applications of officers against repatriation rejected.
KARACHI:
A division bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed on Thursday the provincial secretary of the services department, Iqbal Durrani, to obtain a detailed list of all the officers working on deputation in the Sindh government or vice versa and submit it to the court.
The bench, comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Amir Hani Muslim, was hearing a number of petitions filed by officers who were ordered to be repatriated to their parent departments but wanted to remain at privileged posts.
Earlier, Dr Naushad Shaikh, a former bureaucrat, appearing before the court in answer to a summons, submitted that he had obeyed the orders of the apex court and had stepped down from the post of the principal secretary to the governor of Sindh and at present he was working only on contract.
The bench noted that a number of officers were still working on deputation even though it had passed orders against this. This amounted to “contempt of court”.
The bench expressed its displeasure over the posting of Abdul Wahaba Shaikh of the Intelligence Bureau to the Sindh police and directed him to appear before the court on Friday. The bench also dismissed a number of applications by the officers posted on deputation and asked them to report to their parent department.
