Jurisdiction: Railways Police ASI sought over mystery body

Two men caught transporting dead woman in rickshaw.

LAHORE:

The police are looking for an assistant sub inspector (ASI) of the Railways Police who allegedly paid two men to dump a body here in Bhati Gate police jurisdiction.

Police officials said that ASI Zahoor Hussain was on patrol when he saw two men pulling a large bag out of a rickshaw and taking it towards Salman Public School. The ASI stopped and arrested the two men, identified as rickshaw driver Muhammad Jameel and Abdus Samad alias Chamma.

The suspects initially claimed that they had found the woman’s body near the school, but later admitted that they had brought it there from Shahdara, said police officials. The suspects said that they had been given the body by an ASI Rehmat who was in charge of the Railways Police post at Shahdara Town.

Jameel, a resident of Faisal Town, claimed to have been given Rs120 to transport the body, said the police officials. They said that raids had been conducted to arrest the ASI, but he was on the run.

The body of the woman, said to be around 45 years old, is yet to be identified. No case had been registered as of Wednesday evening, when this report was filed.
