Costly wheat: Flour mills increase rates by Rs2 per kg
Crop stocks have depleted, dividing the demand and supply gap further apart causing prices to shoot upwards
LAHORE:
Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), Punjab Chapter has increased flour prices again by Rs2 per kilogramme (kg) on Tuesday, the association also announced to provide flour in a 10 kg bag from now onwards.
PFMA Punjab President Abdul Jabbar said in a press briefing that the price hike is due to shortage of wheat stocks from government godowns. He said that the millers are forced to purchase wheat from the open market, where the price has crossed the Rs1,100 per 40 kg mark.
Crop stocks have depleted, dividing the demand and supply gap further apart causing prices to shoot upwards, he said.
As further hikes are expected the millers have decided to phase-out the 20 kg bags gradually due to a reduction in the purchasing power of consumers.
