BAHAWALPUR:

A campaign to spray public places with pesticides to prevent the spread of the dengue virus started in the city on Sunday.

Inaugurating the campaign, Prisons Minister Muhammad Iqbal Channar said the chief minister had issued direction to all departments to take part in the dengue eradication campaign.

He said people must also take precautionary measures against the virus on their own. He urged the people to follow the guidelines issued for the purpose by the health department.

Earlier, Town Municipal Administration officer Ataullah Wahla said 18 shoulder carried fogging machines, 11 hand spray pumps and a pick up van with a heavy fogging machine had been provided for the campaign.

On Sunday, the district administration teams sprayed Bindra bridge, Irrigation Department offices, the Tibba Badar Sher water treatment plant and the Islamia Colony.

The campaign was joined by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) members Bilal Baloch and Amjad Shaheen and Chief Sanitary Inspector Riaz Malik.
