Talking politics: Sharjeel Memon lashes out at Sharif brothers

"The party must show Rana’s clarification or kick him out.”

KARACHI:

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother, Shahbaz Sharif, are notoriously dishonest, said Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon as he highlighted corruption charges leveled against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders.

Memon was speaking on the sidelines of a condolence reference held for Dawn journalist Shamimur Rahman at the office of the Karachi Union of Journalists on Saturday.

“There is a clash within the party over monetary issues. Punjab law minister Rana Sanuallah had said that the Khosas were upset over the minister issue too. The party must show Rana’s clarification or kick him out.” He added that the party’s Abid Sher Ali and others were also involved in corruption scandals and no one was taking any action against them.

Responding to a question about Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf appearing before the court on August 27, Memon said that the Pakistan Peoples Party and coalition partners would discuss the issue. “It has become fashionable to send the elected ones back,” he said criticising the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdict on former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. “The chief justice does not talk about the case involving his son. Serious allegations were made against him. He should answer.” He added that countless cases were pending in court, but a case against his party was being heard.

“Why has former minister for religious affairs, Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi’s case not been solved as yet?” he asked. “These are double standards. The cases against the PPP are being highlighted and justice is not being done.”
