Sanghar lynching: Nine suspects remanded in police custody
Neighbours laid siege to the police station and did not let police take the suspects to court.

In response to Ghulam Mustafa Burriro’s lynching two days ago, nine suspects were remanded into police custody by a court on Friday.
Residents of Joharabad, Tando Adam, went on the offensive and tried to cause problems for the authorities. Women from the neighbourhood protested outside the B-Section police station and tried to prevent them from taking the suspects to court.
The police were supposed to present the suspects in court in the morning but could not get there till 12pm because of the protest. A police officer told The Express Tribune that the women wanted the police to release their men immediately.
On Wednesday, Burriro was lynched by a mob which had gathered outside his relative, Wali Muhammad’s house in Joharabad.
They claimed that “immoral activities” were going on inside and got upset when they saw a couple [RU and Faraz Qureshi] enter the premises. The mob padlocked the gate and called the police.
According to Mirpurkhas Range DIG Ghulam Mustafa Jamali, who conducted the inquiry on orders from the chief minister, Burriro arrived at the scene with four men and opened fire on the crowd.
He injured a man identified as Iqbal Shaikh and in retaliation to the firing, the mob attacked Burriro and the men with axes and knives.
The house in question is being rented by Wali Muhammad and is owned by Salahuddin Shaikh. Neighbours claim that Wali Muhammad did not live there with his family but his friends used to use the premises.
Two separate FIRs were registered at the B-Section police station and nine suspects, including six men from the mob, were arrested.
On Friday, the police obtained a seven-day remand for Iqbal’s brother Yameen, Rashid Ali Shaikh, Farhan Shaikh, Abdul Hameed Shaikh, Asghar Naee and Anwar Rajput.
They all were nominated in an FIR lodged by Burriro’s brother Gul Muhammad. The court also remanded RU, Faraz Qureshi and Wali Muhammad Burriro, who were named in Yameen Shaikh’s FIR, into police custody for five days.
The two police constables who were arrested on Thursday night for allowing Iqbal, one of the murder suspects, to escape from Civil Hospital, Hyderabad, were released on bail.
