KARACHI:

The Malir district and sessions court acquitted two men on attempt to murder charges on Friday over lack of evidence.

Imran and Amjad were accused of firing at a police team headed by ASI Mir Muhammad of Shah Latif Town police station near Shedi Khan Goth. The police had ordered them to stop their motorcycle at a check post, but the suspects opened fire to escape.

The police surrounded the area and arrested the men, seizing weapons and hashish from them.

During cross examination, however, the ASI could not confirm how many rounds were fired by the police or the suspects. Nobody was reported injured in the shootout and no empty bullet casings were found, the case report mentioned. After hearing the arguments from both sides, Judge Muhammad Yamin disposed of the case and directed the jail superintendant to release the men if they were not wanted in any other case.
