KARACHI: The head of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Atiq Mir has called upon the government to increase the powers of police personnel, instead of enhancing their strength for security purposes, for better results in their performance.

In a statement on Thursday, Mir said the police should be given permission to take indiscriminate action against criminals and remarked their performance could never improve if they remain under pressure from their high-ups.

He also demanded that police officers involved in extortion should be dismissed and an inquiry should be held against them.
