JI chief opposes military operation in North Waziristan

Munawar Hassan says US is trying to pit Muslims against each other to achieve its 'nefarious designs'.

LAHORE:
Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hasan, opposing military operations in North Waziristan, asked Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Thursday to understand the sentiments of the masses in this regard.

Requesting the army chief to refrain from a military operation in the larger national interest, Hassan maintained that the US and its allies wanted to pit the Muslims against each other to achieve their 'nefarious designs'.

The party chief added that the US itself was holding dialogue with the Taliban whereas it was increasing pressure on Pakistan for an operation to widen the gulf between the people and the armed forces.

Voting advice

Hasan, addressing various delegations at Mansoora, said that the situation in the country will not improve by cursing or abusing the rulers, and the masses would have to change their attitudes and entrust the affairs of the state to honest and competent people.

He warned that if the people elect dacoits and plunderers in the next elections again, then the situation would go worse and the national harmony would be seriously affected.

Hasan further called upon the nation to refrain from voting for corrupt politicians and revolt against them to take the country out of the current mess.

Slating the recent raise in the prices of petroleum products, the party chief said that the indifference and apathy of the rulers has crossed all limits, and at times when the petroleum prices were declining in the world market, the government had been raising the prices.

Lashing out against MQM

Hasan said that target killings, extortion and dead bodies in gunny bags are practices innovated by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi.

The JI chief said that the Mohajirs who migrated to Pakistan, sacrificing all their belongings, would never indulge in such heinous crimes, and said that he was sure that the Mohajirs will hold MQM chief Altaf Hussain responsible for all these activities.
