Extra contingents, plain-clothes police deployed.
PESHAWAR:
A comprehensive security plan has been devised for Eid congregations across the city.
City Capital Police Chief Imtiaz Altaf told The Express Tribune that law enforcement agencies have been asked to remain on high alert as there were reports that terrorists would strike by taking advantage of large congregations. He further said policemen in plain clothes will also render duties, adding that extra contingents will remain on guard to avert any untoward incidents. Altaf further said that 2,000 extra contingents would be provided to police stations.
“Peshawar has been declared a sensitive area as far as terrorist strikes are concerned and stringent security measures were put in place for this purpose,” he explained, adding that the holidays of many police personnel have been cancelled.
The police chief further said that all MNAs, MPAs, VVIPs and senior government officials have been asked to exercise maximum caution and avoid meeting people.
Meanwhile, the Tank district government has also taken security measures to try to maintain peace during Eid and tackle the raising security concerns in areas bordering the South Waziristan Agency.
According to a statement issued from DCO Ameer Khattak, the displaying of weapons in public places has also been prohibited.
Dera Ismail Khan DPO, Sohail Khalid, also said no one would be allowed aerial fire.
