Forced disappearance: Courts tells CID, SIU to locate missing man

Two brothers picked up from their house by law enforcement.

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court has called for comments from the Sindh police’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Crime Investigation Department (CID) over the whereabouts of a man missing since July.

Two brothers – Syed Muhammad Inam and Syed Muhammad Arif – were picked up on July 17 from their house in Sher Shah Colony by law enforcement personnel including, police and Rangers. Arif was set free later, but the whereabouts of Inam are still unknown.

The brothers’ father, Muhammad Aslam Shah, submitted in his petition that Inam was not involved in any criminal activity and was being kept in illegal custody. He appealed to the court to order the law enforcers to release his son. On Friday, standing counsel Dilawar Hussain filed the comments from Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), stating that the men named were neither arrested nor in custody of the Rangers in the province. The next hearing is on September 28.
