The Federal Urdu University will hold a meeting to discuss the objections raised by the Higher Education Commission chairperson, Dr Javaid Laghari, said the FUUAST senate’s deputy chairperson, Aftab Ahmed Khan, on Thursday.
This controversial meeting was originally to be held on August 25 at Karachi University. Laghari had raised objections on the competence of three candidates, who were proposed for the post of the FUUAST vice chancellor, by a committee headed by Laghari.
These objections were met with disapproval from the faculty members and the professors at the search committee. The FUUAST administration, however, fearing backlash and protest, had decided on Wednesday to arrange the meeting at KU on August 25. “I was not guided properly and the senate meeting should be held within the university premises,” said Khan, while talking with the faculty members on the occasion of 51st death anniversary of Baba-e-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq held at the FUUAST, on Thursday.
Khan directed the university registrar, Dr Qamarul Haq, to immediately contact the VC, Dr Muhammd Qaiser, to make arrangements to hold the meeting. The Express Tribune has learnt that Qaiser has decided to come forward in taking the faculty members into confidence before the senate.
