Full court pays tribute to Justice Jan
Senior-most judge to step down within the next few days.
ISLAMABAD:
A full court meeting presided over by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and attended by all 16 judges of the Supreme Court was held on Wednesday.
At the beginning of the meeting, the chief justice formally welcomed the judges and said the meeting had been convened to appreciate services rendered by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, who will step down from the court in a few days.
Paying tribute to Justice Jan’s legal career as a lawyer and then as a judge, the chief justice said Jan had worked hard to perform his constitutional duties without caring for his personal comfort. He always performed his job with commitment, dedication and honesty, the chief justice said.
On the administrative front, the chief justice appreciated his work for the Judges Rest House in Peshawar and work on the extension of the Supreme Court Building. Other Supreme Court judges also paid tribute to Justice Jan for strengthening the judiciary as an institution as a lawyer, a judge and a person.
Later on, the chief justice said that the meeting was also convened to take stock of the Supreme Court’s performance, referring to the dispensation of justice and disposal of cases to redress grievances.
