Akbar Bugti murder case: ATC issues arrest warrants for Musharraf, Aziz – again

Law enforcement agencies asked to present the accused before court on Sept 5.

QUETTA:
A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sibi on Wednesday issued fresh arrest warrants for former president Pervez Musharraf and others for their role in the 2006 killing of Baloch chieftain Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

It is the third time the court has issued arrest warrants for Musharraf, former premier Shaukat Aziz, former Balochistan chief minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yusuf and former governor Awais Ahmed Ghani.

ATC Judge Nawaz Khan Barakzai was hearing the case which was registered in Kohlu police station. A sessions court had referred the case to the ATC through the Balochistan High Court on July 4.

The investigation officer told the court that the interior ministry had been moved to contact Interpol to seek the arrest of the accused. Some suspects, including Jam Yusuf and former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao have been released on bail while the others have been declared absconders. The interior ministry is, however, yet to respond to the request.

Subsequently, the court ordered law enforcement agencies to arrest all the nominated suspects and present them on the next hearing on September 5.

Nawab Akbar Bugti was assassinated on August 26, 2006 in a military operation carried out on the orders of Pervez Musharraf.
