Identity under question: Nadra directed to unblock Mohmand tribesmen’s NICs
Cards had been blocked by the ISI over suspicion that the two could be Afghan nationals.
PESHAWAR:
Peshawar High Court (PHC) directed the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to unblock National Identity Cards (NIC) of two Mohmand tribesmen on indemnity bonds.
Their cards had been blocked by the Inter Services Intelligence over suspicion that the two could be Afghan nationals who had managed to get registered as Pakistani nationals.
The PHC’s division bench was informed by Abdul Latif Afridi, counsel for the both the petitioners, that the persons were Pakistani nationals and residents of the Mohmand Agency.
“I can submit an affidavit showing my clients are Mohmand Agency residents,” he maintained.
He told the court that his clients could not perform Umrah earlier due to the blocked NICs and requested the court to unblock them since they were scheduled to leave for China later. Afridi informed the bench that the Federal Investigation Agency had verified their identities and confirmed that both were Pakistani nationals.
Following this, the bench ordered Nadra to unblock both NICs.
