Five arrested after three deaths in gunbattle

Hussain and Nadia Bibi had run away from their homes and gotten married in a court in February 2011.

Five people have been arrested by Bhowana police on account of a gunbattle that had resulted in the death of three people on Sunday night.


Four of these were relatives of Abid Hussain whose February 2011 marriage with Nadia Bibi without her family’s consent had started hostility between the two families. The marriage ended in March 2012.

The FIR stated that gun battle between some relatives Abid Hussain and Nadia Bibi took place in Darhatta village, after Hussain and his sister Bushra Bibi were stopped on their way home by some of Nadia Bibi’s relatives.


Irshad Hussain and Nusrat Bibi from Abid Hussain’s family and Muhammad Yousuf from Nadia Bibi’s family were killed and five others, including a child, were injured in the shootout. The injured were identified as Azra Bibi, Asmat Bibi, Bushra Bibi, Samar Abbas, 10, and Muhammad Hussain. The injured were taken to the Bhowana tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospital where Hussain was stated to be in a critical condition. SHO Chaudhry Muhammad Afzal said they had combined complaints received from both sides and registered a case under Sections 302 (murder), 324 (attempted murder), 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Nine suspects have identified in the FIR remain at large.

Abid Hussain and Nadia Bibi’s marriage was dissolved on March 17 after the latter informed a court that she did not want to live with Hussian. She later married a cousin.

Hussain and Nadia Bibi had run away from their homes and gotten married in a court in February 2011. Nadia Bibi’s family had accused Hussain of kidnapping her in an FIR they registered with Bhowana police after their marriage.
