Time out: KMC cancels long leaves for doctors

KARACHI: Doctors, professors, specialists and other medical staff of hospitals, dispensaries and maternity homes that are run by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will not be allowed to go on long leave in the future. KMC Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed announced this while chairing the governing body meeting of the Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) on Saturday. Syed said that the power to allow long leaves would now be held by KMDC’s governing body. The meeting also decided to freeze the tuition fee for the college, and Syed said that the step was taken to ensure that education remained within reach of students from poor and middle class backgrounds Officials also present on the occasion also gave approval for the awarding of a three-year contract to KMDC principal Prof. Dr Waqar Kazmi.
